Slouching is one of the most common body-language mistakes. With so many of working hunched over computer screens, this can easily become our default setting. The problem is it screams a lack of confidence, even if you feel on your A-game. Try pushing out your chest and pushing back your shoulders.

  1. “Smiling automatically breaks rapport”: No! It’s just the opposite: smiling *creates* rapport. Be sure to smile a lot! (But not so much that you seem unhinged, as you’ll scare the other person off.
